Civic leaders from around San Diego County are joining together in an effort to end family homelessness.
The effort includes everything from policy suggestions for lawmakers, to creating different ways for people to access help, to increasing affordable housing in the region. The complete plan can be found at keystohousing.org.
We'll have an interview with Councilman Todd Gloria on Thursday's show, where he'll talk about homelessness in San Diego.
"This is pretty substantial. And one of the things we know is, is this is a result of a lack of about 90,000 affordable housing units in our country," he said. "This is a countywide problem and it needs a countywide solution."
Since 2008 the number of homeless children in San Diego County has increased 83 percent.
The goal of the program is to end family homelessness in the county by 2020.
