The holiday season is a time for celebrations, and the feasts that come with them. But it's also a time when lots of food goes to waste.
The San Diego environmental nonprofit I Love A Clean San Diego wants to help residents reduce their food waste, and help feed hungry people while they're at it.
One way the group suggests is to plan ahead, and don't buy too much to begin with.
Donating unwanted food is another way residents can reduce the amount of food that ends up in the landfill this holiday season.
I Love A Clean San Diego also reminds us that oils and grease should not be poured down kitchen sinks or drains, because it can block sewers. They said the proper way to dispose of fats is to collect and bring them to a local collection facility.
