Tijuana Quiet Over Weekend Because of Swine Flu Precautions

Maureen Cavanaugh: The number of confirmed cases of the 2009 H1-NI influenza in San Diego stands this morning at 15. Three high schools are closed and the daycare center here at SDSU is closed because 20 children and three staff members reported flu-like symptoms. Those cases are unconfirmed for swine flu.

That's the situation here in San Diego, but just about 20 miles to the South, the situation is unclear. While Mexican federal officials say the flu outbreak in that country has peaked and is declining, we've gotten very little information about reports of swine flu in Tijuana and Baja California, and the information we do have has often been confusing.

KPBS Border Reporter Amy Isackson has spoken to Mexican health officials and traveled to Tijuana over the weekend. She's here to tell us what she's learned.
