Mortar Fire Rocks Central Baghdad

Mortar shells blamed on guerrilla forces hit several buildings in Central Baghdad Thursday, and a hotel housing Western contractors and reporters came under attack. A day earlier, four U.S. soldiers died in roadside bombings. Although insurgent violence has slowed in recent weeks, U.S. military officials were prepared for more violence around Christmas.
