Bush Calls Africa Trip 'Exhilarating'

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

And as attention shifts to his successor, President Bush has had time to travel, as he did this month in Africa.

President GEORGE W. BUSH: Without a doubt, this the most exciting, exhilarating, uplifting trip I've taken since I've been the president.

MONTAGNE: The president was back in Washington yesterday, attending a meeting of a foundation that helps Africa. And like so many travelers, the president couldn't resist sharing some pictures from the trip.

President BUSH: So with the help of our fabulous White House photographers, I have assembled a slide show of images from our visit and this morning it is my pleasure to share it with you.

MONTAGNE The president declared that the dresses in Tanzania were, quote, "pretty stylish," and he showed picture of his meeting with the president of Benin.

President BUSH: I congratulated him on his effort to fight malaria, which apparently includes a national awareness day called George W. Bush Day.

President BUSH: I pointed out to him that hasn't even happened in Texas.
