CIA officials brief Congress Thursday about evidence that Syria had received help from North Korea to build a nuclear reactor. The secret facility was destroyed last year in an Israeli airstrike.
The briefings were said to include videotapes showing North Koreans at the site before it was bombed. The facility reportedly may have been capable of producing plutonium, a highly radioactive component that can be used in nuclear weapons. But officials have said the site lacked signs of a nuclear weapons program.
The evidence is said to include photographs and video taken by Israeli intelligence that show the facility's design was similar to North Korea's Yongbyon nuclear plant. North Korean technicians were also shown assisting in its construction, according to officials familiar with the intelligence.
