Maureen Cavanaugh: You could say that these are the best of times for kids who realize they're gay. There's an openness about sexuality and a growing acceptance of different sexual identities. But, to say it's better than it has been, is not saying it's easy. Just how difficult it remains depends largely on how a young person's family and their community view homosexuality.

Last fall, Tom Fudge talked with the author Mitchell Gold. We begin the interview with Gold describing his book.
