Jazz lovers have a great weekend ahead of them. There is fans of classic Hollywood have a reason to stay inside. That is ahead with me. We have Nina Garin. Hello. Let's start with the Festival of the arts in North -- Northpark. This take over much of Northpark. We want to separated into blocks so you have the live art lock, craft beer, live music and it is separated. Do people gravitate to one more than others They like the light heart block. There is a festival that is unique. It has contemporary artists and they take objects like refrigerators and cars. They are creating in front of you a new piece of art. You mentioned craft beer. It would not be San Diego without that. This is run by weight point public. For $35, you get unlimited tasters from more than 30 local breweries. That is special because they limit you. But not this one. There is karaoke, a DJ. You want to stay all day. This is divided into two sessions. Unlimited but within a certain window. Yes. Is there a space for more traditional emphasis, someplace where you could find a new piece and bring it home? Back this is partnered with the studio art gallery. They have an art exhibition and they call it gallery industries. Is that -- it happens all day Saturday in Northpark. And you will tell us about the night of jazz and dance. What is that? This is an annual show. It is contemporary ballets that are choreographed by a creative person it is -- Set to live jazz music expect it will be with Charles McPherson. What is he known for? He is one of the great sax players. He will debut a new piece called reflection and hope. It is in alto sax. He created a piece for San Diego Valley called "Sweet Synergy Suite". He will perform that again. I brought a clip from that performance. [ music ] That is great. He created this piece for the ballet. Why does he work closely with them? Back his daughter is a company dancer. She performs in the works. It is great to see them. They are natural collaborators. They have a special relationship with the San Diego Valley. This happens this weekend at the theater. We will go from a sax great two-way piano legend. ChuchoValdes is in town. Is a great Cuban pianist. He is the son of a [ NULL ]. He won an award in February. He is very well known. Is it easy to see ChuchoValdes ? Back he has not been here in 20 years. He is 75. Lately, he is focusing on the collaborations with musicians like Hancock. That is where he is concentrating. What does he sell my? What should people look forward to? Back this will close out the Symphony series. There is not an orchestra. It is going to be a solo piano contras. Let's hear a little bit of ChuchoValdes's music. This is my foolish heart. [ music ] ChuchoValdes is playing at the Symphony Hall. We are excited about this weekend at the cinema at the Balboa. I'm excited. It is a celebration of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Saturday night there is a screen of whatever happened to a Jane. There is a double feature Sunday of Bette Davis is all about Eve and Joan crop is film -- Joan Crawford's film pick They may have seen the series about the actresses. Are they tied to the TV show? Back I am sure that is why they are doing this. It is a very popular series. It is focused on the actresses in the later years. Is about how they did not like each other but they were not getting hired because they were getting older. They created a project and work together anyway. The TV show focuses on their drama plus what happened when Betty Davis got an Oscar nomination and Joan Crawford did not. Those who have not seen this, why do people love this movie? Back is about a former vaudeville actress. She keeps her sister hostage upstairs in a bedroom. It is a specific kind of for. It is like Bette Davis is makeup and costume. It is it something. Because of it, they created this genre that people called hags location. I think we have a clip on the film. Blanche, you aren't ever going to sell this house. Yet, you aren't ever going to leave it. You can watch that and the early movies of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford this weekend at the Balboa theater. I have been speaking with Nina Garin . Thank you. Thanks.

21st Annual Festival Of The Arts In North Park

The 21st Annual Festival of the Arts in North Park is a free art and live music event that also highlights the neighborhood's craft beer and food.

Held along University Avenue, the festival is separated into various blocks. There is the Live Art Block that showcases contemporary artists creating pieces out of everyday objects. There is the Waypoint Public Craft Beer Block, a ticketed area that gets you unlimited tasters from more than 30 local craft brewers. There is also a live music and performance block, a kids block, an artisan block and much more.

Celebrate Bette Davis and Joan Crawford


If you loved the TV series "Feud: Bette and Joan," now is your chance to watch the infamous thriller "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" on the big screen. The movie stars Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in a story about an aging actress who holds her paraplegic sister captive in an old Hollywood mansion.

There will also be a double feature of the films that earned Bette Davis and Joan Crawford their Oscars, "All About Eve" and "Mildred Pierce."

"All About Eve," starring Davis, is a 1950 film about a girl who maneuvers herself into the company of an established but aging actress. "Mildred Pierce," starring Crawford, is 1945 film about a hard-working mother who divorces her husband and starts a successful restaurant business to support her spoiled daughter.

San Diego Ballet's A Night Of Jazz and Dance

Music, Dance

San Diego Ballet brings back its popular night of jazz and dance featuring saxophonist Charles McPherson.

This mixed repertoire will debut McPherson's new work, "Reflection and Hope," as well as 2015's "Sweet Synergy Suite," as dancers — including his daughter Camille McPherson — perform pieces choreographed by Javier Velasco.

Chucho Valdes


The San Diego Symphony's Jazz @ Jacobs concerts closes its season with a rare appearance by Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdés.

Valdés is the conservatory-trained son of Cuban music icon Bebo Valdés and an eight-time Grammy winner. He has spent much of his career exploring and highlighting Latin music.

For his San Diego performance, he will perform a concert of solo piano.
