This year marks major changes on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. The five-member board has two new members, including Republican Jim Desmond.

He replaces Bill Horn who termed out after serving more than two decades on the board. Desmond's district covers a huge swath of North San Diego County — from Carlsbad and Oceanside on the coast, north to the Orange and Riverside County borders and through Valley Center and Borrego Springs to the Imperial Valley line.

Desmond spoke with Midday Edition Wednesday to discuss his priorities.
