Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta, the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War, has decided not to sign up for another stint in the military. Army spokesman George Wright tells the Associated Press that Giunta will leave the Army in June in order to attend college in Colorado. He'll be moving there with his wife. Giunta received the Medal of Honor for saving two fellow soldiers in Afghanistan in 2007:
The appearance of a real hero like Giunta before the big game sort of put the whole "Super" Bowl into perspective, don't you think? Especially the way sports commentators tend to aggrandize the players as if one guy throwing a ball to another guy is somehow heroic.
