A Dozen More Veterans Put at Risk by Dirty Colonoscopies

Veterans Health
Veterans Health

This nightmare of a story just keeps getting worse. The Miami Herald is reporting that the Veterans Administration hospital in Miami is notifying twelve more of its patients that they could have contracted HIV or other diseases like hepatitis because they were given colonoscopies with dirty equipment. This is the third time the Miami VA has had to get in touch with the folks who have served our country, and tell them that they put them at risk for deadly diseases. Way to go, Miami VA.

Here's a little background on the story:

The twelve additional cases were brought to light with the help of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami. I simply can't imagine what it would be like to be told by a trusted health care provider that a medical test I was given to prolong my life may, in fact, speed up my demise. This story makes my skin crawl on so many levels.
