Despite RyanAir's April Fool's Day program to implement child-free flights, many of us are still fond of the little ones, especially the United States military. In fact, April has been declared "the month of the military child." Department of Defense blogger Robert L. Gordon III wrote today of the many sacrifices made by the almost 2 million children of servicemembers in this country:
The DoD has created several programs to help make the lives of military kids a bit smoother, as have nonprofit organizations like the National Military Family Association. The NMFA operates the free summer camp program for military children called "Operation Purple" Summer Camp. The NMFA is currently accepting applications from military families, and the deadline to get those applications in is April 29. Kids from ages 7 to 17 are eligible.
