Military investigators have wrapped up their probe into the death of Marine Sgt. Wesley Rice, according to a Camp Pendleton press release. The 27-year-old Rice died January 14 when the amphibious assault vehicle in which he was riding sank during an accident at Camp Pendleton. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Rice drowned after rescuing two other Marines who were also trapped in the vehicle. Rice left behind a wife and 6-month-old daughter.
The news release from Camp Pendleton reports the investigation made a number of conclusions as to the cause of the fatal accident:
Brigadier Gen. Michael M. Brogan, the Commanding General of Training Command, has ordered the Battalion Commander of the Assault Amphibian Schools Battalion be relieved from his duties.
