A new defense budget proposed by a House of Representatives' subcommittee today would raise servicemember pay 1.6 percent next year, slightly more than the 1.4 percent hike they got this year. According to Stars and Stripes, that means an O-4 with six years of service would get paid $90 more each month. An E-4 with six years under their belts would receive $40 more a month. In addition, reports the Stars and Stripes:
The Army Times reports that same budget plan rejects any increases in Tricare fees for working-age military retirees. The Department of Defense had proposed a 13 percent bump in enrollment fees.
The military personnel subcommittee proposal is anything but set in stone. It still has to be voted on by the entire House Armed Services Committee, then the House as a whole. And then there's the Senate, which will no doubt come up with a few ideas of its own.
