Same-Sex Weddings OKed on U.S. Navy Bases

Navy chaplains will be allowed to perform same-sex marriages on Navy bases, according to new information obtained by the Navy Times. Now, whether they is another matter entirely. I've noticed a lot of media outlets are making a hullabaloo about what's allowed under the new Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal rules - when many of those scenarios will most likely never take place.

But I digress. A memorandum issued by the head Navy Chaplain Rear Adm. Mark Tidd reads as follows:

Some politicians, like Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri, insist the same-sex marriage policy violates the federal Defense of Marriage Act. As a married heterosexual, I appreciate Rep. Akin's concern. I really do. But I've got to be honest - of all the things my husband and I have had to defend our marriage against (death, illness, etc.), two gay people we've never met getting married isn't even in the top 100. But that's just us.
