The Navy has opened a brand new child care center at Naval Base Coronado this week for kids as old as 12. It's the first military child care center open 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week on the West Coast. The aptly-named Child and Youth 24/7 Center will provide round-the-clock care for the children of servicemembers and Department of Defense civilian employees, according to a Navy news release.
Naval Base Coronado commanding officer Capt. Yancy Lindsey said of the center:
The Child and Youth 24/7 Center cost $2 million to build, and was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It can house up to 20 kids at any one time, and each child who stays overnight gets his or her own bed.
