The San Diego-based crew of the recently deployed USS Makin Island enjoyed a steel beach picnic over the weekend. The Makin Island is on its maiden deployment.
According to the Makin Island's Facebook page, the amphibious assault ship is the only one in the Navy with a hybrid electric propulsion system.
