Two U.S. Navy Sailors will represent our country in a talent contest taking place August 31 at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Laquita S. Brooks and Construction Mechanic Constructionman Kevin E. Quarles will square off against the Brits and other Americans at the competition, according to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 Public Affairs.
Brooks is a poet, and she will present her original work "Self Will."
Quarles will perform on acoustic guitar a song her wrote called "Empty Chair." Quarles describes the song this way on YouTube:
A song about seizing opportunities despite fears of stepping on feet or failing miserably. And having a sudden realization that you're pretty badass, and you can wear the world like medal around your neck if you keep your sights on your goals.
Both qualified for the British contest by wowing the judges at a qualifying competition at Camp Leatherneck in front of an audience of 400.
I've posted that video up top so you can enjoy Quarles' talent. Good luck to both Sailors!
