Frank Tanabe knows how important it is to vote. The 93-year-old fought for that right during World War II, and he wasn't going to let terminal cancer get in the way of casting his ballot. Tanabe's grandson Noah posted a photo on Reddit of his grandfather voting by absentee ballot from his hospital bed, and that post has gone viral, perhaps inspiring others to exercise the right Tanabe fought for almost 70 years ago.
What's even more remarkable about Tanabe is that he joined the Army while he was imprisoned in an internment camp for Japanese-Americans, according to the Associated Press.
Tanabe's daughter Barbara told the Associated Press why her father fought in the war:
"I think he feels like joining the Army, going to the camp, fighting in the war, and fighting discrimination — these were all things he did so that we have this precious right to vote."
