U.S. Military Academy cadet Evan Szablowski, a native of Bakersfield, has been named a Rhodes Scholar for 2013.
The Rhodes Scholarship allows students to study, all-expenses paid, at Oxford University.
According to Szablowski's West Point biography the cadet is a junior majoring in Mathematics:
He spent freshman year on the Triathlon team and sophomore year as a member of the World Champion B3 Sandhurst team.... He also enjoys writing and playing the guitar.
Szablowski told the Associated Press he wants to one day work in military intelligence.
