The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the December 2012 scuba diving death of Camp Pendleton Marine Anastasia Aileen "Staci" Jackson an accident.
The Examiner's report states Jackson, 26, drowned while scuba diving due to blunt force head injury that was accidental in nature.
As Home Post previously reported, Jackson was with a dive group who was exploring the Yukon, a sunken ship off the coast off Mission Beach, on December 1.
[Jackson] began to have problems with buoyancy, and her divemaster tried to assist her, but the two lost their grip on each other and she dropped deeper, authorities said. Her body was found the next day, just inside one of the ship’s compartments and tangled in ropes.
Jackson's father Bruce Atkins owned a commercial diving business in Miami. Atkins told the U-T that Jackson was considering taking over the business after she left the Marine Corps.
