Soldier Dies Of Pancreatic Cancer After Brave Battle

Army 1st Lt. Timothy G. Santos Jr., 29, began suffering from severe back and abdominal pain while he was deployed to Kuwait. The Army transported Santos back to Fort Bliss in Texas for further medical evaluation. On March 24, Santos was diagnosed with stage III pancreatic cancer, according to the website YouCaring.com

Santos, his wife, and two young children, headed to Johns Hopkins University hospital so he could receive the best treatment for his type of cancer. According to The Pelham Reporter, Santos' treatment lasted several months, and he then was sent back to Fort Bliss. He passed away there August 18.

Santos was from Helena, Alabama. The Department of Defense reports Santos was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss.

Santos is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
