U.S. Army 1st Lt. Jason Togi, 24, of American Samoa, was killed August 26 in Hasan Karez, Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with a homemade bomb, according to the Department of Defense.
Togi grew up in Pago, Pago. He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood in Texas.
A young man who goes by the YouTube handle "King Jelluh" created a tribute video to Togi, whom he calls his "brother." He also wrote this poem:
life is like that all the time...
i pray-down in tears
wondering why he called him
he went far, and he left his family
oh god i pray today,
just to see his smile 1 more time
