Dubai Port Deal May Fail Due to New York Demands

A business deal demanded by Congress is in danger of falling apart because the New York Port Authority has raised last minute objections. Dubai Ports World had arranged to sell operations at five U.S. ports to an American company, AIG.

Congress had demanded that Dubai Ports find a U.S. company to buy its port operations. Now, that deal looks to be in jeopardy, because the Port Authority of New York is demanding a "transfer fee" in order to let the deal go through.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who led the fight against Dubai Ports World, said the deal might not happen at all. Robert Siegel talks with NPR's Adam Davidson.
