Physicians for Vice President Dick Cheney are keeping an eye on his health after an ultrasound revealed a blood clot in his left leg.
Cheney will be treated with blood thinning medication for several months.
Dr. Suresh Vedantham, a specialist at Washington University Medical School, says the prognosis is good.
"It sounds like this was diagnosed in a timely fashion, and he has been treated with blood thinners," Vedantham said. "Once you're on blood thinners as long as your level remains in the proper range, and I am sure he will be monitored carefully, the likelihood of developing more clotting is actually very, very low. So I think it is very good that they found it before he developed a more serious problem."
The vice president has had four heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery, two angioplasties and a pacemaker implanted.
Cheney visited his doctor Monday when his leg started to bother him after a speech at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
