Non-Voter's Remorse

So why doesn't the average San Diegan vote, that's the real question. & For me, it is simply bad timing on a move, but why do most not vote? & Yes, I know the lackluster answers of no time and not knowing where to vote at... & But to be honest I think it really boils down to the fact most San Diegans simply don't care enough to vote.

Yes, you are reading me right, I say that most citizens do not care about the very government they complain about. & If they did, then they would vote. & And I can say this with a clear conscience because I used to be one of you. & Voting day rolled around, and I would hem and haw about the whole thing. & "Who cares who wins?" I would say to myself and friends. & "It's the same choices year after year, so what's the point?"

And, in a way, I was right. & Between some of the mayoral candidates lying and using VERY lowball tactics even in debates to fringe runners whose platforms were almost a joke, for the most part I heard nothing new. & That was, until I heard a scrappy youth saying what I was thinking. & Eric Bidwell. & True, I know he likely won't win. & I am very saddened by this, but he at least said what a lot of folks were thinking, including myself.

What's worse is the propositions that are coming up for vote. & One would allow landlords all over the city to start jacking up rent even MORE then they do now. & Rent is already expensive, and this proposition will make San Diego unlivable. & Second is a proposition that will allow the city to take anything by emminent domain. & It's bad enough our federal government can do this, but now our own city? & It's just not right...

But, I have no right to complain. & I didn't vote, so I lose every right to complain about the new mayor OR if the propositions pass. & But, like many other San Diegans who didn't vote, that won't stop me from complaining. & In fact, I'm sure many who didn't vote will complain loudly when the candidate they don't like or the propositions we don't want to pass or fail do as such. & And what can we tell them when they do?

Next time, show you care and actually vote. & Don't say you will, DO IT.
