The Race for Sheriff Is On
Maureen Cavanaugh: Earlier this month, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender announced he'd be retiring before his fourth term expires next year. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors now has to appoint an interim sheriff to serve out the last 18 months of Kolender's term.
It's generally assumed that whomever is appointed may well have an edge in the San Diego County Sheriff's race next year. So, the appointment is taking on a higher political significance than one might ordinarily expect.
