The public got some insight Tuesday into how San Diego Gas and Electric’s emergency power shut-off plan is playing with The California Public Utilities Commission.
There were two proposed decisions issued today from the PUC. The first came from Commissioner Timothy Alan Simon who recommends letting SDG&E go ahead with its plan to turn off power to San Diego’s backcountry during periods of extreme fire risk. But Simon also issued a number of conditions, including requiring the power company to consult with CAL FIRE and the San Diego Office of Emergency Services before turning the power off.
In a second decision, an administrative law judge recommends completely denying SDG&E’s plan. The PUC will meet in September to consider the recommendations. SDG&E has said it will implement its plan as early as September 1.
