There’s a new park in the works for downtown San Diego and the Port wants some planning help from the public. A meeting will be held tonight to discuss the latest design.
The Ruocco Park is being proposed for the southwest corner of Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway near Sea Port Village. The Port’s Jim Hutzelman says at tonight’s meeting the public will get a chance to look over a revised set of plans for the park.
“It provides a little more open space, and a little less paved area, more event friendly, activity friendly areas. To complement somewhat the contemplative areas of the park, of which there are several,” he says.
Hutzelman says the park will cost about $6 million. More than half will be covered through a grant from the San Diego Foundation. During the summer the Port was criticized for eliminating plans for a park near the Broadway Pier. Huztelman says so far the public has responded well to the Ruocco Park plans.
