The Tea Party Express bus rolled into San Diego Thursday.
The rally was held on San Diego’s water front, next to the USS Midway museum. The large statue of a sailor kissing a nurse provided a back drop for speakers that included former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and talk show host Roger Hedgecock.
People at the rally waved flags and signs. Some wore colonial costumes. But San Diegan Sharon Barnhill says she came out to make her voice heard.
“I feel like we’re not being listened to. That no matter what the people say, the people who’ve been voted in before are saying we’re going to do what we want to do. We know best, you sit down and we’re going to tell you how it’s going to go,” she said.
Barnhill said she thinks the national, state and local governments are all in trouble. Her views were echoed by several people at the rally. Others expressed concerns about jobs, taxes and the pension problems of both San Diego and the state.
