The list of potential candidates for San Diego’s District 4 special election is getting smaller.

Candidates must collect at least 100 signatures from registered district voters and pay $200. As of Friday afternoon, one of the candidates had had their signatures validated. The City Clerk’s office will work with to check the other candidate’s petitions.

The special election will be held on March 26th. If no candidate receives more than half of the votes, the top two vote-getters will move on to a run off. The run-off must be held within 49 days of the special election.

The winner of the district seat will determine whether the San Diego City Council has a democratic or republican majority.
