Night Court Reduced To One Night Per Week For SD Central Traffic Division

Night Court sessions in San Diego's Central Traffic Division are about to be reduced to one night per week, and reservations will be required, court officials announced today.

The change from five nights per week to Thursday nights -- effective next week -- involves minor offense and traffic matters at the Kearny Mesa courthouse at 8950 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.

"We understand some drivers who want to appear before the court can only make it in the evening," said Superior Court Executive Officer Michael Roddy.

"When we had the court open five nights a week, we would have a handful of people show each evening. By moving Night Court to one night a week and taking reservations, we can consolidate the attendance and fully utilize our staff."

By requiring reservations, court staff will be able to identify and pull citations ahead of time so court users can move through the process more quickly, he said.

Night Court reservations can be made by going to court in person or calling (858) 634-1800.

Due to the New Year's holiday, Night Court has been canceled tomorrow at the Kearny Mesa courthouse and the South Bay courthouse.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences.
