San Diego Officer Kills Man Who Attacked Him With Knife

San Diego police say an officer shot and killed a man who tried to stab him with a knife.

Lt. Paul Rorrison says the officer responded late Thursday after police received a call about an assault at a condo complex in the Black Mountain Ranch community.

Rorrison says the suspect came out of his residence holding a knife and refused orders to drop the weapon.

Police say the officer fired one shot. The Los Angeles Times reports he man was pronounced dead at a hospital in La Jolla.

The suspect was described only as a 60-year-old man.

The officer is a 24-year veteran of the department.
