December Home Sales Rise, Capping Year Of Housing Growth
Home prices rose again in December, finishing off the year on a strong note, according to the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors. The association reported that 2012 was overall a good year for the housing industry.
Home prices in December were 18 percent higher than they were in December 2011, according to GSDAR. The number of sales of existing homes also increased in December.
Lindy Kaiser, a realtor in San Diego, said December is usually a slow month for home sales, but she saw a bump in business over December 2011.
“It’s definitely been bigger this year," she said. "In the past month of December it’s been much busier than last year, the 2011 month of December.”
Kaiser said that bump leads her to expect an even bigger year in 2013.
“Starting Janaury 1 of this year, right after the new year, the phone has been ringing much more and business has really been increasing," she said.
Chula Vista saw the most home sales of any local city in December, according to the realtor association.
The most expensive home sold in December was a 4-bedroom, 4-bath La Jolla home that sold for $7.4 million.
