The sea lion pup rescued from The Marine Room last week has a name now — Marina — and she "remains in stable and guarded condition," SeaWorld said Wednesday.
"Veterinarians and animal care specialists at the marine park are cautiously optimistic about her recovery," officials said in a news release.
Since being rescued, Marina has gained four pounds and is improving gradually, officials said. Blood work has shown some inflammation, but no other signs of infection or illness.
Marina was found Thursday curled up on the seat of a dining booth in The Marine Room in La Jolla. She was malnourished, dehydrated and her eye was swollen shut.
SeaWorld said they are seeing a higher than normal number of strandings on local beaches due to high tides and El Niño. So far this year, SeaWorld San Diego has rescued 53 sea lions. In 2015, they rescued 990 sea lions.
