The Carlsbad Village Street Faire runs on the first Sunday of May and November. The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce organizes the event, which features 900 arts and crafts booths, antiques, international food court, a huge section with children’s rides, an entertainment stage, and beer garden. The Street Faire takes place in the Downtown Village of Carlsbad. Parking for this very popular event is limited, so visitors are encouraged to use the complimentary shuttles that run to and from the faire every 15 minutes. The shuttle pick-up locations are at the northwest corner of Sears at Shoppes at Carlsbad Plaza Camino Real (Highway 78 and Jefferson) as well as at the Poinsettia Coaster Station (Poinsettia exit off of I-5). Create a unique Bandsaw Box! Sunday, December 21, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Bandsaw boxes are beginner-friendly and have a variety of uses. Once you make one you can make many! In this 7-hour workshop, students will create a box made from a single block of wood using the bandsaw. Students will learn to design and create organic forms on the bandsaw while observing wood grain and learning to make cross cuts and rip cuts. We will cover shop safety and methods for cutting and gluing your box. Students will also learn sanding best practices and how to achieve a perfect finish using beeswax. We welcome all makers, from beginners to advanced. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Thursdays, August 28, September 4, 11, 18, October 2, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. In this 5-week wheel-throwing course, Ceramicist Briena Chavez guides students looking to build a solid foundation in ceramics while progressively developing their skills. This class is perfect for beginners and those who want to refine their techniques through a guided approach. Throughout the course, students will learn fundamental throwing techniques, trimming, altering forms, and glazing, gaining confidence on the wheel while creating functional pottery. Each week introduces a new skill that builds on the previous one, ensuring steady growth and mastery of key pottery concepts. Students gain hands-on experience with throwing and understanding of clay behavior from start to finish, as well as confidence in being on the wheel and a deeper knowledge of glaze choices and surface treatments. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome. KPBS is holding a second preview screening event of "THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION" - Ken Burns' new documentary film. This new event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 5:45 p.m. at the City of Carlsbad Library. The event is free to attend and registration is now open! THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION is a new six-part, twelve-hour series. It tells the story of America’s founding struggle, the men and women of the Revolutionary generation, and the crisis that they lived through. THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION premieres nationwide on Sunday, November 16 and airs for six consecutive nights through Friday, November 21 at 8 -10 p.m. on KPBS TV.
