Indigenous Peoples’ Day Craft Camp for Preschoolers! In this half-day Craft Camp, preschoolers will explore craft making and corn! First Nations Peoples of North America have been masters of art and craft for thousands of years. One very humble but beautiful craft is their functional arts using corn and corn husks. After corn is ripened and harvested it needs to be fully dried. To do this the husks were carefully braided to form a long strong strand. The braided strands were then hung in their dwellings for safe keeping. A side benefit is the braids are beautiful works of art that doubles as a highly nutritious food for later use. Another creative use for some of the leftover corn husks is corn husk figures. These could vary from female dolls with colorful dresses to stout men figures with traditional simple clothing. These figures could be for children’s play toys or ceremonial gatherings. In this class children will be corn shelling and creating corn husk figures. Celebrate Día de los Muertos with music, movement & craft! Family-friendly free event! All ages welcome, with a special focus on ages 0-8 years old! Join us at Songbirds Music on Saturday, November 1 from 2-4 p.m., for a family-friendly afternoon of fun! We’ll celebrate Día de los Muertos together with a family music class hosted by Songbirds Music, followed by story time and fun all-ages crafts by San Diego Craft Collective. We’ll work together to create tissue paper flowers, and for the littlest of hands, we’ll be making yarn balls. Finally, we’ll have a light snack and be guided in fun movements with Liliana Ibarra Patoja. This event is recommended for families with children ages 0-8 years and their loving grownups. Parent participation is required. This event is hosted by and will be held at Songbirds Music, in collaboration with San Diego Craft Collective. Songbirds Music is located in the Dance Place Building in the Arts District of Liberty Station. The Lupus Research Alliance is hosting its annual “2025 San Diego Walk with Us to Cure Lupus” event Saturday, November 22, 2025. This in-person fundraising event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with others in the community who are passionate about finding a cure for this debilitating autoimmune disease. Also included are inspiring speakers, light refreshments, fun festivities, and a Kids Zone. All are welcome.
