One of the primary ways we generate support to provide rigorous science programming to kids in the City Heights community is through our annual fundraiser – the Bubble Up! Gala. This black-tie affair is attended by 300 leaders in the San Diego business, philanthropic, and scientific communities. To inspire the next generation of science leaders, Ocean Discovery Institute creates learning experiences for young people traditionally excluded from science due to race, income status, and educational opportunity. Our students will join high-paying fields, break generational poverty, and change the future of science. After hosting the event for nearly two decades, we are excited to reimagine this year’s event! This year we move from a formal sit-down dinner to a new format with increased opportunities to build relationships, be in community, and come together with a shared purposed – raising critical funds so that thousands of students each year can transform their lives through science. Bubble Up! Reimagined will be attended by more than 200 leaders in the San Diego business, philanthropic, and scientific communities. The event itself consists of a “mix & mingle” portion of the evening where Board Members, donors, and Ocean Leader alums will have the opportunity to enjoy awesome food and drink while circulating and building authentic relationships with one another and have the chance to win an exciting Opportunity Drawing prize. Following, guests will join us for a powerful program beginning with a live auction with exciting trips and experiences (visit the website to preview these items), student-centered story-telling, and ending with our “Make A Difference” paddle raise, where guests will have the opportunity to empower the next generation of science leaders through a direct donation to the organization. The Second Annual Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Heritage Association of San Marcos will take place on Saturday, April 8, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Juan Veramendi Plaza. The hunt, featuring plastic eggs filled with candy and raffle tickets, is designed for children ages 2-12. Prizes will be announced between 12:30-1 p.m. by the MC. Activities for children include pin the tail on the bunny, corn hole, putt-putt, arts/crafts, egg decorating, live tortoise to observe, face painting, costumed bunny for photos, and hot dogs for sale to picnic in the park. On Thursday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m., the 100% volunteer-based nonprofit San Diego Professionals Against Cancer will be holding Bingo & Beer at Harland Brewing’s Scripps Ranch Tasting Room. There will be fun prizes for bingo winners including packages from BevMo, Dream Dinners, gift cards to local stores and restaurants and more. The bingo games are donation based with a suggested donation of $4 for one card of $10 for three cards.
