On October 17, Friday, drop the kids off at G3 Point Loma from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., then walk over to Inspirations Gallery to join fellow parents/writers for a well-deserved evening of in-person writing. We will be providing the space, some optional prompts or quiet time, and a bit of socialization at the beginning/end you bring the laptops, notebooks, and creativity! Drop in whenever.   • Saturday, December 6, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 4-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome.   • Learn to Carve a Spoon! Sunday, November 16, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Beginning spoon carving. In this introduction course of carving Woodworker Paul Maschka will be sharing the ancient style of green wood hand carving with simple but very precise hand tools–a small carving axe, straight blade carving knife and a curved hook knife. With proper techniques, green wood can be intricately sculpted into extremely beautiful, functional and unique pieces of art. Paul specializes in Viking-era cutlery. This Scandinavian style is still being crafted around the world. In this workshop, students will be creating a straight tea spoon or straight cooking spoon. This class is designed for the beginner as well as more experienced carvers. There is no prerequisite for this class. All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. Tools and chopping blocks will be available for purchase after the class. No experience necessary. Back for its 28th incredible year, the family favorite features the songs “Santa for a Day,” “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” and “Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze),” the delightful carol from the popular animated version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" Celebrate the holidays as the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, is once again transformed into the snow-covered Who-ville, right down to the last can of Who-hash. Running time: One hour and 20 minutes. There is no intermission. Age RequirementsFor Ages 3+: Children under the age of three will not be permitted to performances of "Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" with the exception of 10:30 a.m. All-Ages Performances. Each individual attending an afternoon or evening performance must have a ticket for their own seat for admission. Minors ages 12 and under are not permitted unaccompanied in the theatre, and they must be seated with an accompanying adult. 10:30 a.m. All-Ages Performance - Children under the age of three will be admitted to 10:30 a.m. all ages performances ONLY. At the 10:30 a.m. performances only, free lap tickets may be requested for any child under the age of three who will occupy the same seat and sit on the lap of a parent or guardian in attendance. Regardless of age, each audience member, including babes in arms, must have a ticket to be admitted into the theatre.
