  • Please note there is no class on April 25, 2026. Characters and characterization make or break a novel, and as a writer, you must know not only how to construct a person from the ground up, but also how to skillfully relate that character to your readers through action and thought. This means that complicated backstories are not the be-all-end-all to characters. We need to understand the personalities within our writing. This process can be tricky, but it is a lot of fun. Once you have it down, you’ll never forget it. This course will focus on three main areas of study: - Character Theory - Psychology - Subtext By the time you finish this course, you will not only have fully formed characters that fit your story and style, you’ll know how to use them, too. NOTE: Though this class is offered as part of the Novel Writing Certificate Program, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. Please also note that you will receive your Zoom link via email 24 hours before the start of this class. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram
