  • From Swish Projects: Swish Projects is pleased to present “Castillos y Cuevas Joyas y Piedras”, a solo exhibition by visual artist Lilian Martinez (@bfgf). Join us this Saturday, November 20th, from 12:00 to 3:00pm at Swish for the exhibition’s opening reception. Much thanks to @ariianapearl @soft.qtrly for making this show possible. — About the artist: Exploring themes of beauty, humor and comfort, visual artist Lilian Martinez captures portraits and still-life’s that are as full of vibrance and warmth as her subjects. Using paper, canvas and linen, Martinez often portrays women of color in postures of strength and dignity. Her ceramic sculptures are lucid, and are equal parts playful as they are thought-provoking. Her home goods brand BFGF (Boyfriend / Girlfriend) contains products designed by Lilian, which are in many ways extensions of the themes found in her paintings. Lilian Martinez studied photography at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently lives and works between Yucca Valley and Los Angeles, CA. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, most recently with Ochi Projects [Los Angeles], The Naughton Gallery [Belfast, Ireland] and Commune [Tokyo, Japan].
