  • Chris Blanco’s conceptual photographs delve into the complexities of human emotion, crafting beautiful, surreal narratives that reflect our most powerful inner experiences. Visit our immersive installation and step into his latest captivating scene—capture your own moments and experience his inspiring vision firsthand. This specially crafted installation will consist of a new scene Chris will build within the gallery. The installation will feature some of the props used in past projects to transform the gallery into a space of wonderment and awe. Chris will host the gallery during his Opening Reception on January 17, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., giving guests and collectors the chance to get to know Chris, his process, and even take photos within the installation. The exhibition will go live in the gallery beginning January 7, and end on January 25.   • Learn to Carve a Spoon! Sunday, December 21, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Beginning spoon carving. In this introduction course of carving Woodworker Paul Maschka will be sharing the ancient style of green wood hand carving with simple but very precise hand tools–a small carving axe, straight blade carving knife and a curved hook knife. With proper techniques, green wood can be intricately sculpted into extremely beautiful, functional and unique pieces of art. Paul specializes in Viking-era cutlery. This Scandinavian style is still being crafted around the world. In this workshop, students will be creating a straight tea spoon or straight cooking spoon. This class is designed for the beginner as well as more experienced carvers. There is no prerequisite for this class. All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. Tools and chopping blocks will be available for purchase after the class. No experience necessary. Susanna Peredo Swap is an award-winning producer, journalist, and film director with over twenty-five years of experience as an arts administrator, actor, jazz vocalist, arts advocate, and public relations specialist. While working for the San Diego International Airport Art Program she curated 80+ exhibitions with some of San Diego’s best museums, artists and galleries; as well as a fantastic roster of talent for its performing arts series. She currently serves on the San Diego Museum Council; the Board of Women in Tourism & Hospitality International; the Board of the San Diego Press Club; the Advisory Board for the Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and Community Advisory Committee for the Burnham Center for Community Advancement. She recently served as the Arts & Culture Co-Lead for World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 and on the Advisory Committee for UCSD-TV’s new ARTS Channel. She has previously served on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Art Institute; as Board Vice President of the Alliance Française de San Diego; Board Vice President of the San Diego REPertory Theatre; and Vice Chair of the Port of San Diego’s Public Art Committee. Susanna is a magna cum laude graduate of San Diego State University where she majored in Humanities and minored in French. She holds a Professional Certificate in The Cycle: Management of Successful Arts and Cultural Organizations from the Devos Institute of Arts Management, University of Maryland; a Professional Certificate in Business for Arts and Nonprofit Arts Organizations from University of San Diego; a Certificate in Photography: Images and Techniques from University of California, San Diego; studied Art History at the Université Paris Sorbonne (Paris IV); and History of Video Art at the École du Louvre in Paris, France.   • On Friday, October 24, Songwriter Sanctuary will host Shea Givens, DevvLove, and SDMA Artist of the Year Anthony Cullins performing original music in a Nashville-style round. The event is hosted by the legendary Jeff Berkley in partnership with Normal Heights United. (4650 Mansfield St. Suggested Donation $10. All ages. Doors 6:30 p.m., Music 7 p.m.) All donations collected go directly to artists, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. About the Artists Shea Givens, a Missouri native now based in Southern California, is a musician known for her powerful live performances. With influences from R&B, Neo-Soul, Blues, Rock, and Country, she is unafraid to experiment with genre styles. Shea's music explores themes of love, mental health, and self-acceptance, drawing from personal experiences. She recently released the song "anxieties" both as a solo performance and with her band, showcasing her versatile musical style. Currently, Shea is working on her upcoming album with her bandmates, with the first single set to release in May 2024. Anthony Cullins, known as “The Fallbrook Kid,” fuses blues, funk, rock, and soul into a dazzling guitar style that’s earned him San Diego Music Awards for Best Blues Artist (2023) and Artist of the Year (2025). He has performed alongside icons including Frank Hannon, Greg Douglass, and Kid Ramos. DevvLov delivers a unique blend of rhythm and soul, performing from his cajón while looping percussion and keys. His sound weaves influences from Alicia Keys, Damien Rice, Bon Iver, Bob Marley, and Michael Jackson into something all his own.
