  • Learn Plain Weave, Clasped Weft & Hemstitching! Saturday, November 23, 2-5 p.m. Have you wanted to dive into the mindful, rhythmic, magic of weaving? In this rigid heddle loom workshop, students will learn to weave their own unique handwoven fabric in both plain weave (a classic, simple pattern) and clasped weft (where two wefts interconnect, creating unique patterns). Each student will learn the basics of how the loom works, a variety of simple weaving techniques, plain weave, clasped weft weaving, and finally, hemstitching for a finished piece. Students will weave a length of handwoven fabric of their choosing using the techniques in-class. Looms will be pre-warped in this class and students will weave together on Ashford Looms with 100% cotton fiber for a fiber-friendly afternoon. Beginners, as well as those with weaving experience are welcome. No experience necessary. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of flintknapping, including how to create cutting tools, points, and other useful implements by striking and shaping raw stone. Guided by an experienced instructor, you’ll gain insight into the historical and cultural significance of flint tools and understand the precision involved in the process. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a survival skills aficionado, or simply curious about ancient craftsmanship, this class offers a unique opportunity to connect with a time-honored tradition. You’ll leave with not only new skills but also a deeper appreciation for how early humans created the tools that helped shape civilization.
