  • Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. January 8–March 5 (9 weeks, 27 total hours of instruction) AAC Art Studio There are few artistic pursuits more rewarding than creating a successful portrait bust, especially of a loved one or significant other. Join sculptor Marty Davis as he teaches the process of creating a bust from photos. Students will learn how to photograph a portrait sitter, and how to use those photos to create an accurate three-dimensional (3D) likeness. Marty will explain and demonstrate the elements of successful portraiture. Topics include the anatomy of the skull and neck, the proportion and placement of the features, and how to generate and refine a convincing likeness. Students will create a single portrait bust of a subject of their choosing over eight weeks. No experience with sculpture necessary. This class is for all skill levels. Materials: Materials will be discussed at the first class. Please note: this course runs for nine sessions total. Learn and develop your hand-building pottery skills with three projects, such as a set of nesting plates, a berry bowl, and your own custom mug. Each class will introduce a new project to work on, which will require practicing different techniques to get to the final assembled piece. The last class will be reserved for glazing all the work produced during the class. At the class's completion, you will take home your glazed projects, finished and ready to be used. Beginning to intermediate students are welcome. Materials: The materials fee includes clay, glazes, firings, and the use of basic tools. It is recommended that students bring an apron and a hand towel for cleanup, as well as a notebook and pencil to write down instructions and sketch ideas.
