Six of San Diego’s most talented AAPI chefs (Asian Americans and Pacific Islander) will create signature baked goods for the Friendly Feast AAPI Chefs Bake Sale, taking place at Cowboy Star on Sunday, November 17. Guests can pre-order a curated box with six unique items, including an ube coconut crumb doughnut, Valrhona chocolate cannelé, “Flandan tart”, and more. Boxes are priced at $45 each. Proceeds benefit the Friendly Feast scholarship fund and Pacific Arts Movement. Bake sale boxes go on sale Thursday, November 7th via the Friendly Feast website. This eight-week workshop style course introduces students to a popular and fun printmaking technique of silk screen. No prior experience in printmaking is necessary. Students will create vibrant, multicolor prints using water-based silk-screen materials while exploring their own style and applying this popular method to their own imagery. The direct, on-screen stencil techniques, such as screen filler/drawing fluid or wax crayon, as well as indirect, photo-emulsion methods of drawing on Mylar will be shown, and digital file preparation will be explored. A stencil monotype-printing and mixed-media approaches will be covered. Students will learn how to set up their own DIY studio and will learn all aspects of preparation, setup, and production of fine art prints. Materials: Ink and studio materials will be provided. All proceeds from the event will benefit Shelter to Soldier's Psychiatric Service Dog Training Program for post-9/11 veterans in need, and Shelter to Soldier Food Pantry, fueling vitality and nutrition for our 30 dogs in training. Monday, November 11 from 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. This Woodworking Camp is all about building and designing in wood! Children will learn about the safe use of tools as well as the properties of wood while making projects. We’ll be upcycling wood and 2x4s into step stools, seating, and game prototypes. Projects and depth of skill exploration are matched up to the children’s age/ability. The first part of the day is structured around a step stool project so that campers can learn tool safety and get comfortable with our materials and workflow. The 2nd part of the camp will encourage children to sketch their ideas and designs, invent fun games that we can work on in small groups, and try out different building methods to see what works best as we spend the afternoon creatively constructing, engineering, and exploring all things wood! This camp is recommended for children 8-12 years. Some power tools will be used. Transfer from Another Liberty Station Arts Camp Optional | No Charge If your child is in another camp in Liberty Station Arts District that ends as ours begins and you need your child transferred, let us know! We’re happy to have a staff member walk your child from one camp to this one. Lunch Hour Supervision Optional | $5/hour If you’d like your child to stay during the lunch hour, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., there’s a $5 fee for the hour to cover the lunchtime gap.
