  • Join us for a Holiday Storytime with the San Diego Padres! As part of the San Diego Padres Foundation Holiday Giving Campaign, we are happy to announce that we will host a special Holiday Storytime for youth on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m. The Holiday Storytime will feature a Padres special guest and will include holiday and baseball themed stories and crafts. The event will be held at the Denny Sanford Children's Library at San Diego's Central Library downtown. While the Padres appreciate their fans of all ages, this event is focused on providing a special holiday Storytime for San Diego's youth. Registration is required and attendance will be limited to youth ages 5-12 and their parents/caregivers. If you have any questions about this event, please call the Central Library's main number (619-236-5800) and ask to be transferred to the Children's Library Reference Desk.   • In 2007, Asa Taccone chased his dream to Los Angeles when an established mentor provided a check for $10,000 so the promising ingénue producer could quit his job and pursue music full-time. He incubated this miraculous nest egg until he could subsist and survive off his own songwriting, production, and artistry as one-half of the duo Electric Guest with drummer Matthew “Cornbread” Compton. Hailed as a complex musical melting pot, Latin Jazz has its roots in the vibrant jazz scene of Harlem, as well as the Cuban and Puerto Rican musical influences of Spanish Harlem and the Bronx. The San Diego Latin Jazz Collective not only embodies these ideals in name, but also is a cultural cauldron at its very core, the foundation of the group's existence. Founded in 2009 by band leader Michael Benge (Miguelito), this versatile group features some of Southern California’s top musicians from the San Diego/Tijuana metroplex, bringing together an extraordinary compilation of rhythms, styles, and genres that represent each members cultures and musical heroes.   • The Latinx New Play Festival expands the presence of Latinx stories on the American stage, and spotlights the broad range of today’s Latinx experience. Four scripts were selected to be rehearsed and developed at the Playhouse, culminating in a live public reading at the festival. The festival is free for everyone to attend, and will include a schedule of in-person readings of new works, panel discussions and other events. This year’s festival programming includes Our Lady of the San Diego Convention Center by Mario Vega, Tempt Me by Andrew Rincón, Ama. Egg. Oyá. by Lori Felipe-Barkin and NOVIOS by Arturo Luíz Soria.
