Quan Huynh is the Executive Director of Defy Ventures, a nonprofit whose vision is to shift mindsets to give people with criminal histories their best shot at a second chance. After spending 22 years in and out of prison, Quan was paroled from a life sentence in 2015 and created his first company six months later. The following year, he received the Peace Fellowship Award for his work with the Alternatives to Violence Project. Quan has been featured in Entrepreneur, PBS Newshour and Talks at Google. He will discuss his work, entrepreneurial success and his biography, Sparrow in the Razor Wire, as well as share his testimony on the Asian-American experience with gangs and confinement in the California Department of corrections. His discussion will expand our understanding of mentorship, resiliency and success.Sponsorship: Project Rebound and Sociology DepartmentFollow Quan Huyuh:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter
