  • A 7-year-old falls in love with dance—40 years later, she works everyday to stay in the game. Created by Monica Bill Barnes and Robbie Saenz de Viteri, co-leaders of New York-based dance company Monica Bill Barnes & Company, this piece is both live documentary and performance. It features a large cast of San Diego dancers from 12-80 years of age who have learned their parts over the week leading up to the WOW Festival. Interviews incorporate their voices and stories into the show, giving the audience an unprecedented look into the life of a dancer as a new kind of sports hero: one who keeps moving against all odds. La Jolla Playhouse’s celebrated annual WOW Festival is a four-day celebration of immersive, interactive and breathtaking experiences from local, national and international artists. Free for everyone to attend from April 4 – 7, WOW Festival is presented in partnership with UC San Diego and takes over locations all around the campus.   • Sarah Stieber presents the 4th annual Sarah Stieber Gallery in Little Italy, unveiling her latest collection titled the "Integration Series." The experiential pop-up gallery will be open to the public from April 8 – June 17, with a grand opening celebration taking place on April 18. The figurative series explores multifaceted identities, illustrated by the illusion of overlapping transparent colors made entirely from cut and pasted tape. Known for integrating her art with the public through large-scale murals and immersive events, this year’s gallery concept is no exception. When visitors enter the gallery, they will feel like they are stepping into one of Stieber’s colorful, sparkling paintings and can engage with a host of experiential features. Visitors can step into a custom Polaroid photo ‘art booth’ adorned with colored transparencies to snap Polaroids of themselves, creating instant self-portraits in Stieber’s signature style and becoming part of the art themselves. In a special collaboration with Topo Chico Mineral Water, the brand will introduce "Sabores," their newest line of flavored sparkling waters, at the gallery in weekly "Sabores Saturdays" events. This public event series will feature live music, allowing visitors to sample the new flavors in a festive atmosphere. These 6 inspiring women have made unique contributions to our community. JFest celebrates their lives and accomplishments. Directed by Ali Viterbi Written by Sarah Price Keating, Rebecca Myers, Todd Salovey, and Ali Viterbi Debbie Kornberg is a spice expert and entrepreneur. She owns SPICE + LEAF and teaches weekly Spice It Up with Deb: A Live Cooking Experience workshops. Dr. Barbara Parker is a professor emerita in the Department of Medicine at UCSD and a medical oncologist at UC San Diego Health. She was the medical director of oncology services and senior deputy director of Cancer Medicine at Moores Cancer Center. Rabbi Devorah Marcus has been the senior Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El since 2013. Bev Pamensky is the Executive Director of the Kindness Initiative, an organization dedicated to alleviating poverty in the San Diego Jewish community. Sara Brown is the San Diego regional director of the American Jewish Committee. She was previously the Executive Director of the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights, and Genocide Education, and managed post-secondary education programming for USC Shoah Foundation. She also conducted research and wrote a book on the Rwandan genocide. Vered Libstein is a survivor of the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel. Her husband, Ofir Libstein, was the mayor of San Diego's sister city Sha'ar HaNegev, and he (along with their son, her mother, and her nephew) was murdered on October 7.
