Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D., one of the foremost experts on compassion, will talk about the power of compassion to transform our world. He will provide an understanding of how compassion can be a source of solace, strength and even happiness in these turbulent times. Dr. Thupten Jinpa will provide concrete and practical actions that we can take to move us on the path to peace and justice. Dr. Thupten Jinpa is the Founder of the Compassion Institute, and the principal author of Compassion Cultivation Training™. Dr. Jinpa trained as a monk at Ganden Monastic University, India. He also holds a B.A. in philosophy and a Ph.D. in religious studies from Cambridge University. Dr. Thupten Jinpa has been the principal English translator to H.H. the Dalai Lama since 1985. His publications include A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to be Compassionate Can Transform Our Lives. Highly acclaimed classical violinist and fiddler Tessa Lark collaborates with songwriter, producer and bassist Michael Thurber (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) , classical and jazz master clarinetist and improviser Mark Dover and Louis Cato, a GRAMMY-nominated and internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter who has played in the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert since the show’s inception in2015, and was recently named bandleader for the newly renamed Late Show Band. The Synergy Initiative is co-produced by Inon Barnatan and Clara Wu Tsai.

Award-Winning violinist Tessa Lark and virtuoso composer/bassist Michael Thurber are a duo unlike any other. The two met years ago as alumni of From The Top, and they began developing their duo collaboration in 2016 after a one-off performance at an event for WXQR in New York City. The two quickly realized how much they had in common as they began to explore their musical influences together, combining Lark’s Kentucky bluegrass with Thurber’s versatile bass.
