We are 100% volunteer run, community based collective that has been sending books and resources to people incarcerated for years. Explore mindfulness-based writing using fun prompts to collectively inspire and deepen your intuitive expression. Participants in this one-session creative writing workshop will be inspired by a series of short, in-class prompts with a poem and pictures. The aim is to boost creativity and deepen each participant’s intuitive expression through contemplative practices. We will start this workshop with a brief mindfulness settling-in exercise—and a poem to accompany the session’s theme. And after each writing prompt, participants will be encouraged to discuss their work in small groups. This intuitive creation process is highly motivating; it enhances self-awareness and the flow of ideas and connection with others. As a creative writing teacher and published author since 2007, and a trained mindfulness teacher since 2017, I enjoy fostering unique and brave spaces for participants to gather from all backgrounds and walks of life. This course is designed for every type of writer: novelists, poets, screenwriters, playwrights, journalists, essayists, etc., with all levels of experience: from novice writers to seasoned authors. Knowing how to establish mood is essential to good writing. Hook readers early through the expression of believable feelings and a well-established mood. The best tools to create mood and atmosphere are simple literary elements. We will explore them in this three-hour workshop and write from prompts to try them out and build new stories. On Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, One Warm Coat will lead the nation in observing National Share the Warmth Day, a dedicated national day of awareness and action to ensure everyone has access to the warmth, comfort, and protection they need to thrive. Since 1992, One Warm Coat has helped distribute nearly 9 million coats and kept 22 million pounds of textiles out of landfills. Every coat collected stays within the local community where it was given, ensuring immediate impact. Observed annually on the third Tuesday of October, National Share the Warmth Day inspires thousands of individuals, schools, community groups, and companies to donate coats, host coat drives, and make financial contributions to provide warmth to children and adults in need. The need is more urgent than ever: More than 37 million Americans currently live in poverty. Homelessness rates jumped by 18% in 2024, with more than 771,000 people in the U.S. without housing. Last year, One Warm Coat supported 4,600 coat drives, facilitating the distribution of nearly 500,000 coats nationwide, yet 60% of local nonprofit partners reported not having enough coats to meet the need. 84% of One Warm Coat’s nonprofit partners expect an increased demand for services this year.
